Two police officers are nursing injuries after they attacked each other on Wednesday morning following an argument.
The officers from Dago Police Post in Kenya (Kisumu County) slashed each other with a panga while allegedly fighting over a Sh3,000, bribe money a Kenyan blog kenyans.co.ke reported.
Reports also indicated that the two arrested a trader around the area and were given the money in exchange for freedom. A fight between the two ensued prompting one officer to slash his colleague on the head and arm.
“It was a tough fight. The other officer also grabbed the panga and slashed the first one, inflicting serious injuries on him,” a witness was quoted by the Star.
The two security agents were reportedly rushed to different hospitals over fears that they would continue with the fight.
Kisumu North OCPD Peter Omanwa, however, refuted claims that the officers were fighting over a bribe, describing their confrontation as just a normal quarrel.
“The officers simply had a small disagreement before attacking one another, They did not slash each other as severely as people are claiming. They simply had a few bruises,” Omanwa said.
The police boss assured that investigations would be launched into the incident cautioning officers against such behaviour.
“It is normal to differ in any office but not to the extent of an attack. Action will be taken,” he added
