Police has arrested forty eight (48) suspects in the on going bi-elections in Jinja East Constituency.
SP Onyango Patrick, Deputy Police Spokesperson said, ” They were arrested on charges of malicious damage to property that belonged to the NRM party three buses carrying NRM supporters along Kisinja Road in Jinja Municipality.
The screens of the three buses were shattered completely by the rowdy youth group when police was notified it came and rounded them up.” Onyango said those arrested are on Charges of Malicious damage, assault and threatening violence which were opened at Jinja Central Police Station.
Onyango said that since the by election process started in Feb. 13 so far five (05) people have been taken to court, and more are to be taken once the investigations are complete.
Onyango urged supporters of the candidates to be calm and report to Police any incident of lawlessness. He said Police is there to maintain law and order.
